Dargaville High School is set in surroundings incorporating attractive gardens and mature trees, a large sports field, astrograss, netball courts and indoor swimming pool, and is within close proximity of the School Hostel and Dargaville Town Centre. We are proud of our surroundings and ensure that pupils fully utilise the facilities that are offered to them.
The library is well resourced with books, computers, CD Roms, magazines and reference material. It is also networked to the internet allowing students instant online access. Inter loan facilities are also available with other services. The library is used during normal class time, lunchtime and as part of the after hours homework centre initiative.
The well equipped gymnasium, large playing fields, floodlit astrograss surface suitable for netball, tennis and hockey, weight training room and heated indoor swimming pool form the nucleus of the sports centre at the school. The 22 metre swimming pool is fully utilised by the school and the local swimming club. The gymnasium incorporates a climbing wall for budding rock climbers. These facilities are also used by various community organisations.
Often a topic close to the mind of most teenagers. The canteen offers a wide range of foods, both hot and cold. Since many of our students are bus students the canteen is open early before school, for snacks and lunch orders. Otherwise the canteen is open at intervals and lunchtimes. It is operated by the Parent Teachers Association and run by a manager with student assistance and works within MOE guidelines concerning healthy eating options.
The music suite has facilities for recording and practice studios plus the main teaching room. There are a number of specialist music teachers available for individual tuition. The Performing Arts Centre for Drama facilities set aside with lighting and sound equipment enables groups to produce their own theatrical events.
Besides the library, the school has three rooms of computers and various pods around the school for students access, providing over 200 computers with BroadBand (SchoolZone) access to the internet, filtered email facilities and SMART Board technology.
The ‘Sick Bay' is in a quiet part of the school close to supervision. Pupils can book an appointment with the Nurse in the 'Health Room'. Incorporated within the student welfare system is the 'Transition Hub', providing students with access to information on careers, STAR courses, tertiary institutions and the Guidance Counsellor.
