It is with immense pride that I greet you as the Principal of Dargaville High School. This is more than a school to me; it is my former Kura, and my commitment to our students and community runs deep.

The Dargaville community deserves a World-Class Kura, and that is our absolute focus. We recognise that there is vital work ahead. For too long, investment in our property infrastructure has been neglected, and many of our buildings are much as they were when I was a student here.

However, what we may lack currently in modern property, we profoundly make up for in the heart and dedication of our people and leadership.

We are fortunate to have an exceptional workforce which has sustained this Kura for many years. Crucially, it is now being supported by a World-Class Commissioner and her expert team. This phenomenal partnership is accelerating the development and implementation of teaching practices and curriculum that are truly world-standard.

Our core commitment is to create a school where every single child feels like they belong. We will be focused on ensuring every student is connected through a club, team, or collective—a place where they can find their people.

The good news is that massive change is on the horizon. We have secured millions of dollars in tagged funding from the Ministry of Education for significant property upgrades. This investment will modernise our school and provide the physical learning environment our students deserve.

An Evolving Kōrero

This Principal's kōrero will be an ever-changing kōrero—a dialogue that shifts as our Kura changes and grows. For now, this message outlines what is pertinent and paramount. This is a time of exciting transformation. We are committed to building a Kura for the 21st century—a school where our students achieve, belong, and thrive.

We invite you to come along for the ride and be part of this adventure!

Ngā mihi nui,

Curtis Gaylor
